Keeping wrasse in my aquarium
One of my favourite wrasse is Cirrhilabrus solorensis. As can be seen from the photo he is a real beauty. He also comes with a long list of common names, Red Eyed Fairy Wrasse, Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse, the Tricolor Fairy Wrasse, Redheaded Fairy Wrasse, or Koi Fairy wrasse are just some of the names. I have seen it referred to as a Blueside Wrasse which is a different fish entirely(Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura).
If you know the scientific name it helps you do the research needed before introducing a fish into your aquarium.
I saw a beauty in a LFS and asked what it was. I was told it was a Blue Spotted Wrasse. It looked like a young fish so I asked for its's scientific name and was told it was a small Halichoeres wrasse but he was not sure which one but it would be fine in my tank. When I got home and did some research I found it was called a Diamond Wrasse, Anampses caeruleopunctatus. A stunning fish growing to 35 cms!! Certainly not for my tank.
