My new iridis wrasse is being badly harassed by my female clown. They are causing serious problems in the tank and I am now convinced they need to go if I am going to be able to keep the wrasse I really like. I have tried to catch them before but it is too easy to hide in amongst the rocks and corals. The only solution is to partly strip the tank down to get them out. This is something I really didn't want to do and will be a big disruptive job. Will need to set a day aside and make sure I am feeling patient and calm!

![]() I went into one of my lfs for a second Mexican turbo snail. The one I have is brilliant. Only snag was the number of wonderful wrasse in the shop. It is totally unfair of these people to stock so many superb fish when I don't have a big enough tank! A couple of different anampses wrasse, a gorgeous earmuff wrasse (halichoeres xanti), a pair of wonderful pencil wrasse (Psuedojuliodes cerasinus, I think) and various leopard wrasse, some in pairs. Unfortunately they also had a couple of Iridis wrasse, one of which begged to come home with me. So snail, wrasse and myself had an enjoyable evening settling in together. Just got to get him feeding properly. A non reef related subject. I have been messing around with the page descriptions and meta words and meta tags on the website to aid with searches...in theory. Don't know if it will make any difference. The site seems to average over 20 unique users a day. For an ordinary little site I am very pleased with that.
![]() Am wondering how long it takes for wrasse to adjust to a new aquarium. My two leopard wrasses and my soloresnsis wrasse I have had for quite a long time. They seem to settle for the night about lights out and become active the following morning when the lights come on. My more recent additions however are up and about at least an hour before the lights come on and settle in the hideaways well before the lights go off. Adjusting the body clock must take time I guess. My skimmer seems to be getting back to normal and I think the OTS issues are resolving themselves slowly. I could use more aggressive phosphate removal techniques but am happy to address the underlying cause slowly. Clean up crew has increased, I continue to turkey baste the live rock on a regular basis as well as removing hair algae growth were possible. I am back to my weekly 25L water change. I think that removing phosphate using a media reactor could upset other aspects of the tank without addressing the underlying cause of the issue.
![]() My rather aggressive female Tomato clown has turned into a complete thug! She has taken a total dislike to my solorensis wrasse and chases him around the tank at every opportunity. Luckily there are plenty of hiding places for him. I hope she gets tired of this before the poor thing is harassed to death. In the last couple of weeks the skimmate in the skimmer cup has become much more liquid than in the past. I have not changed any of the settings on the skimmer so am wondering why this is the case. I have been delighted with the Bubble Magus 5 to date but am not sure what is going on the moment.

AuthorI have always enjoyed keeping fish and began this website when doing the research before setting up my own modest reef. I couldn't find this type of site so decided to make my own. Archives
